We all know that Rydens Enterprise School and 6th Form are undergoing major changes, development and improvements but what may not be so clear is what this will mean to families with children due to start at RES over the course of the next 24 months.
We hope that the following guidance on the proposed admissions criteria and consultation process helps reassure you.
The Interim Academy Board of Rydens Enterprise School and Sixth Form College as part of The Howard Partnership Trust (THPT) will be consulting on proposed changes to the admissions criteria for September 2018.
This consultation is open to all interested parties and the Interim Academy Board is distributing this communication to all local schools, local stakeholder groups and other admissions authorities.
The changes to the admissions criteria have been highlighted in bold/italic, the main changes being an increase in PAN to 300 and the inclusion of Burhill Primary School and Grovelands Primary School as named feeder schools as the academic year 2017/18 is the first year that these two primary schools will have a Year 6. The increase in our PAN is at the request of the local authority.
We expect to move into our new school building in December 2017 and by September 2018 we will be able to accommodate 10 forms of entry.
We would ask that you please, as appropriate, make parents and community/resident groups aware of this consultation
process, either through your website, in your newsletter or on school notice boards.
Rydens Enterprise School and Sixth Form College joined The Howard Partnership Trust (THPT) on 1 September 2016. As a result, THPT has become the Admissions Authority and we are required by law to consult for a minimum period of six weeks on changes to the admissions arrangements.

The school will admit students without reference to aptitude or ability from the locality and other areas to a level at which we can provide a quality of education for all. The admission number for Year 7 entry to RES in September 2018 will be 300. As an Academy within The Howard Partnership Trust, Trustees and Governors have decided to adhere to LA procedures which are summarised in the following paragraphs.
We operate Surrey’s equal preference system and Rydens Enterprise School and Sixth Form College has a fixed catchment area as set out in the Local Authority map. Parents will be given the opportunity to state six ranked school preferences. Applications must be made by 31 October 2017. Where the number of applications exceeds the PAN the following prioritised criteria will apply in strict accordance with the school’s Admission Policy:
Children with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) will be allocated a place before the admission arrangements below are applied. In this way, the number of places available will be reduced by the number of children with a plan that has named the school.
Priority will be given to looked after children and formerly looked after children who have left care through adoption or a child arrangement or special guardianship order. Supporting evidence of this status will be required.
Occasionally there will be a very small number of children for whom exceptional arrangements will apply. These exceptional arrangements may override other admissions priorities and the LA may apply them when they first offer places.
The grounds on which the application is made must be supported by written evidence from a registered health professional such as consultant doctor, psychologist, education social worker or education welfare officer to demonstrate that RES is the only secondary school suitable for that student.
Written evidence must be submitted at the time of application. The LA may also ask schools to admit over their Published Admission Number at other times under this category.
Children who will have a sibling currently at the school, in Years 7 to 11 at the time of admission.
A sibling will be considered to be a brother or sister (that is, another child of the same parents, whether living at the same address or not), a half-brother or half-sister or a step-brother or step-sister or an adoptive or foster sibling, living as part of the same family unit at the same address.
Children who attend one of the following feeder Primary Schools and whose permanent home is within the catchment area for RES available to view on our website www.rydens.surrey.sch.uk
This criterion will not apply to in year admissions.

Children attending one of the feeder primary schools: Ashley Church of England Primary School, Bell Farm Primary School, Burhill Primary School, Grovelands Primary School, Walton Oak School; whose permanent home is outside the catchment area for RES as defined on the attached map. This criterion will not apply to in year admissions.
If the school is oversubscribed within any category, priority will be given to those living nearest to the school determined by a straight line from Home to School and will be measured in a straight line from the pupil’s address, using the local authority’s geographical information system, to the nearest school gate available for pupils to use. Where two or more children share priority for a place, eg, where two or more children live equidistant from the school and in all other ways have equal eligibility for a place, the school will draw lots to determine which child should be given priority.

b) In the case of multiple births, where children are ranked consecutively in their order of priority for a place and there are not sufficient vacancies remaining for each of them, wherever it is logistically possible, each child will be offered a place.
Where it is not logistically possible to offer each child a place, the child(ren) to be offered the last remaining place(s) will be determined by their rank position and the other sibling(s) will remain at the top of the waiting list, after any looked after or previously
looked after child, until they can be offered a place.
c) In all categories the child’s permanent home address is used. For children with joint custody arrangements, the permanent home address will be the address where the child spends the majority of school nights, ie, Sunday night to Thursday night inclusive. If the child lives at two different addresses during this period with adults who have parental responsibility, the parent in receipt of child benefit will be classed as the main carer and their address taken as the child’s permanent home address.
d) Proof of address will be required in the form of a Council tax document.
e) If a place has been obtained on a fraudulent basis, the offer will usually be withdrawn.
f) For those pupils who do not obtain their preference, a waiting list will be drawn up for the period of one academic year only, after which a written application must be received to remain on the waiting list. Vacancies from the waiting list will be filled according to the admissions criteria above however priority under categories 4 and 6 will only apply for year 7 admissions up to and including the day before the start of term September 2018. Beyond that date, the waiting list will be re-ranked using criteria 1, 2, 3, 5 and the Tie Breaker only.
g) For secondary school transfer from primary school into Year 7, any applications received after the published closing date will be deemed as late applications and will only be considered after all those applications received by the closing date. Exceptions may apply when a late application has been accepted as late for good reason in accordance with the home local authority’s coordinated admission scheme.
h) Applicants may choose to seek a place outside their child’s chronological (correct) year group.
Decisions will be made on the basis of the circumstances of each case and what is in the best interests of the child concerned.
Applicants who are applying for their child to have a decelerated entry to school, ie, to start later than other children in their chronological age group, must initially apply for a school place in accordance with the deadlines that apply for their child’s chronological age. If, in liaison with the Headteacher, governors agree for the child to have a decelerated entry to the school the place cannot be deferred and instead the applicant will be invited to apply again in the following year for the decelerated cohort.
Applicants who are applying for their child to have an accelerated entry to school, ie, to start earlier than other children in their chronological age group, must initially apply for a school place at the same time that other families are applying for that cohort. If, in liaison with the Headteacher, governors agree for the child to have an accelerated entry to the school, the application will be processed.
If it is not agreed for the child to have an accelerated entry to the school, the applicant will be invited to apply again in the following year for the correct cohort. Applicant must state clearly why they feel admission to a different year group is in the child’s best interest and provide what evidence they have to support this.

The Governors will make arrangements to enable the parent of a child to appeal to an Independent Appeal Panel against any decision by or on behalf of the Governors who refuse the child admission to the School.
In making these arrangements, the Governors will have full regard to Schedule 24 (Admission Appeals) of The School Standards and Framework Act 1998.
The school welcomes applications for entry to the Sixth Form from students who have attended the school in Year 11 in 2017-18 and wish to enter the Sixth Form in September 2018.
The school welcomes applications for entry to the Sixth Form from external candidates who attended another school for Year 11 during 2017-18. The Published Admission Number for Year 12 in September 2018 will be 20; this figure refers only to Year 12 students being admitted to the school for the first time and not to the students entering from Year 11 within the school. Please note that more places may be available subject to the take up by internal applicants.
Entry to the sixth form is subject to a student having achieved the entry requirements for the programme of subjects/courses they wish to pursue. Students should refer to the school’s Sixth Form Prospectus for individual subject requirements for further details; individual subjects may be limited in the number of students they are able to accommodate.
Should applications from suitable qualified external students exceed the number of place available, then places
will be allocated according to the admission criteria above, excluding 4a) and 5), which apply for Year 7
